This past weekend, our Sahara Home Care Skokie office was buzzing with excitement as we hosted one of our annual Back-to-School Supply Giveaways. This event is one of our favorite community traditions—helping local families and students start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed. But this year’s giveaway was extra special because we were joined by Bushra Amiwala, a respected local leader and politician who is making waves in the community.

Who Is Bushra Amiwala?

Bushra Amiwala is a Skokie native, community advocate, and elected official who has dedicated her career to uplifting others. Recognized as one of the youngest Muslim women to hold public office in the United States, she has become a voice for civic engagement, youth empowerment, and representation in local government. Bushra’s passion for serving the community shines through in everything she does, making her an inspiring role model for the next generation.

Why Her Presence Was Special

Having Bushra at our Skokie Backpack Giveaway meant more than just a special guest appearance—it symbolized the power of community collaboration. Her commitment to education and youth empowerment aligns perfectly with our mission at Sahara Home Care: to care for families both inside and outside the home.

Bushra took the time to meet with families, connect with our caregivers, and share in the joy of giving back. Her support reinforced the importance of coming together to create positive change, and we are grateful she could join us for this meaningful day.

Why We Host Our Backpack Giveaways

At Sahara Home Care, we believe that community care is an extension of home care. Our Back-to-School Backpack Giveaways are our way of investing in the future of the communities we serve.

Many local families face challenges when it comes to preparing for the school year. By providing free backpacks filled with school supplies, we aim to:

  • Lighten the financial burden for families
  • Empower students to start the year confidently
  • Strengthen the sense of community support and connection

Each backpack represents more than just supplies—it’s a symbol of our commitment to helping families thrive.

As we reflect on this successful event, we are filled with gratitude for our team, our volunteers, our community partners, and of course, Bushra Amiwala for making this day truly unforgettable. Together, we are not just preparing students for school—we are building a stronger, more connected community.
